Copyright

Following the studio session on copyright and ensuring that none of your work gets nicked I went through the areas that I display my work to see how I could improve my own use of copyright.

The ways that I have ensured my work is safe from plagiarism are:
  • Adding a copyright symbol to my Instagram bio, stating that all work on the page is my own.
  • Uploading images of a lower quality (72dpi) to prevent people from being able to use my work without prior permission.
  • In future when I do create a website, I will state somewhere on the page that all the images are copyright to me.
  • Including dates of production as well as a statement of copyright on all future uploads.
  • Watermarking work could be an option, however, I sometimes find this looks rather tacky.

It is something that deserves a lot of attention, especially when working with clients. I need to be very aware of the statements on any contracts I sign and ensure I completely understand what I am getting into with whatever clients I work for. Having somebody to help me out with this the first few times I get commissions would be really useful.
